Beloved Greek actress Despina Stylianopoulou, a prominent figure in classic Greek cinema, passed away at 91.

Her niece, Anna Stylianopoulou, shared the sad news on Instagram, noting that Despina died peacefully, surrounded by her family. Despina's health had deteriorated recently, leading to her hospitalisation.

desDespina Stylianopoulou studied voice at the Greek Conservatory and theatre at the Dimitris Rontiris Drama School, graduating in 1959. She debuted in cinema in 1960 with "Stranger of the Night" and became well-known for her comic roles, often portraying a provincial housekeeper. Her breakthrough came in 1967 with "Ah this woman of mine!" alongside Aliki Vougiouklaki and Dimitris Papamichael. That year, she starred in 12 films, earning it the nickname "year of Stylianopoulou."

despinaDespina also found success on the radio with the show "The Kitchen Firewoman," which ran for fifteen years. She was a fixture at the Avlaia Theatre in Piraeus for many years. Her legacy in Greek entertainment remains cherished.
