
Eurostat has revealed the winners of the European Statistics Competition 2024, showcasing the statistical prowess of students across Europe.
The competition, held during the 2023-2024 school year, saw an impressive turnout, with over 22,000 students from 20 countries participating – the highest number since its inception.
After a rigorous national phase, winning teams from each country advanced to the European final, tasked with creating a two-minute video on the theme 'Everything was better before! Truth or not?'
Greece's Team Afs_stat_8 emerged victorious in the junior age group (14-16), presenting a captivating time-travelling narrative comparing life in Greece between 1986 and 2024. Their innovative approach impressed the jury, depicting a quest to alter the future amidst a looming sandstorm.
In the senior age group (16-18), Lithuania's Zuikos claimed the top spot with a professional video analyzing the country's evolution over the past 40 years. Meanwhile, Greece's Tukey secured fifth place, contributing to the nation's success in the competition.
The winners will be honoured at an award ceremony on June 26, 2024, streamed online from Madrid.
